How they work Reduce Debris Reduce Heat Benefits FAQ History

Q. Have BrakeTurbines gone through real world testing?
A. Yes, BrakeTurbines were tested in a year long, nation-wide evaluation by a major waste corporation and have been tested by numerous line haul fleets both large and small. The evaluation itself determined that BrakeTurbines keep brakes cleaner and cooler, key factors in improving brake life and performance.

Q. How do BrakeTurbines work?
A. BrakeTurbines louvered parts form a circular turbine inside the drum that collects a steady stream of cooling, cleaning air and forces it in between the drum and friction material. This air not only reduces the damage and brake fade that results from heat but also decreases premature wear and brake squeal caused by buildup of brake dust and debris.

Q. What kind of increase in brake life can I expect?
A. The increase that BrakeTurbines provides in the waste industry varies depending upon the application, environment, driver and other factors; however, most users in the waste industry experience increases of 10% to 35%.

Q. Do BrakeTurbines work in low speed applications?
A. Yes. Though BrakeTurbines give their largest increase when speeds above 45 mph are attained, even in low speed pick up routes BrakeTurbines reduced temperature and blew out brake dust and debris to extend brake life.

Q. Do I need to use backing plates with BrakeTurbines?
A. Because BrakeTurbines blow out dirt and debris they make it possible to go without backing plates. Since BrakeTurbines pull in outside air to cool the brakes they work best with the backing plates off.

Q. How long do BrakeTurbines last?
A. BrakeTurbines are made from stainless steel. Warranteed for life to be without manufacturers defect, BrakeTurbines should easily last the life of the vehicle.

Q. Do BrakeTurbines help with brake squeal?
A. Brake squeal is made worse by high heat and an accumulation of brake dust on inside the brake drum. BrakeTurbines lower the surface temperature of the friction material and blow out the brake dust, lowering incidents of brake squeal.

Q. How are BrakeTurbines installed?
A. BrakeTurbines slide over the studs of any 11.25" diameter hub with a 16.5" drum. Simply take off the drum, slide on BrakeTurbines and place the drum back on. BrakeTurbines form a circle that conforms to the shape of the drum.

Q. BrakeTurbines are supposed to improve brake performance. By how much?
A. In independent testing BrakeTurbines have been shown to increase brake torque by 20%.

Q. Do you have a part for spoke wheels?
A. The part for spoke is currently in development. If you are interested in this part contact Lynnfin to be put on a list to be contacted when it is ready for the consumer market.
